Hello Fort Worth! Today, the Texas Department of Public Safety is celebrating Juneteenth, a day of profound historical significance that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the enduring pursuit of freedom, equality, and justice.
On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that enslaved people were free. This moment became a defining chapter in our nation's history and laid the foundation for what is now recognized as Juneteenth National Independence Day.
Juneteenth serves as both a celebration and a reflection. It is an opportunity to honor the resilience, determination, and contributions of generations of African Americans who have helped shape our communities, our state, and our nation. It also reminds us of the importance of unity, understanding, and continued progress toward a future where liberty and opportunity are accessible to all.
As we observe this historic occasion, we encourage everyone to take time to learn about the significance of Juneteenth, celebrate the rich cultural heritage it represents, and reflect on the values of freedom, equality, and respect that continue to strengthen our communities.

Major, LSTGUMPA mass shooting in Midland, Texas, on Friday, June 12, 2026, left one person dead and 10 others injured before the suspected gunman died following an hours-long police standoff.
The violence began around 8:00 a.m. local time in the 4600 block of West Wall Street in western Midland. According to reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety, law enforcement arrived to apprehend a fugitive when the suspect opened fire on bystanders and police. The shooter then barricaded himself inside an abandoned veterinary clinic, initiating an hours-long standoff with police, SWAT, and federal agencies.
With this devastating news, I want to remind you all to stay vigilant and stay safe, as we do live in an unpredictable world. I want to bring awareness to our reality.
